Technical Program
Technical papers in all areas related to noise and vibration control have been invited for inclusion in the technical program. The broad theme of the Congress is "Innovations in Practical Noise Control," and papers of specific relevance to this theme are especially encouraged.
Papers are welcome in broad technical areas of noise and vibration control, prediction, and assessment, including: active noise control, building and room acoustics, community and environmental noise, computational methods in acoustics, passive noise control materials and methods, shock and non-linear acoustics, signal processing, structure-borne sound (including fluid⁄structure interaction), subjective response to sound (including quality), transportation noise, underwater acoustics, vibration and modal analysis, and more.
The Congress will feature approximately 10 parallel sessions as well as a poster presentation area. A number of structured technical sessions are planned. For more information please contact the technical co-chairs Brad Gover and J. Stuart Bolton via e-mail at technical_chair@internoise2009.com.
Second CAETS Forum on Worldwide Noise Sources
CAETS Forum Program is now available here.
The CAETS Forum will be held in the Maple Room at the Westin Ottawa Hotel
Invitation to INTER-NOISE 2009 delegates
A second forum of the International Council of the Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS) will be held on 2009 August 24-26 in Ottawa during INTER-NOISE 2009. The forum will be sponsored by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA), the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK), the National Academy of Engineering (US), and the Canadian Academy of Engineering. This forum will be a follow-up to the 2008 June workshop on the design of low-noise vehicles for air, road, and rail transportation that was held at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research, Southampton, U.K.
The CAETS Ottawa forum will address non-vehicular noise sources that present worldwide problems in occupational, domestic, and community settings; and will assess the technology available today for the design of low-noise products and equipment and to assess what is needed to be developed in future technology for the reduction of noise emissions of these products and equipment. The topics to be covered will include the following:
- Low-noise Machinery and Equipment for Workplace and Home
- Outdoor Machinery and Building Noise
- Codes, Practices, and Standards for Low-noise Equipment and Buildings
This technology assessment will provide CAETS with an update on the state of noise control technology so that CAETS may support recommendations to be developed which will encourage the use of low-noise noise vehicles, equipment, and other products and promote their use throughout the world. Noise emission goals for the future that will support sustainable development will be recommended. These recommendations will be included in a CAETS statement to be circulated to policy-makers worldwide
As a registered INTER-NOISE delegate you are warmly invited to participate in this important forum on worldwide noise sources.
International Forum on Noise Impacts
27 August 2009
After the InterNoise 2009 Conference in Ottawa, Canada
Meeting agenda and Background Materials
At the request of its Research, Engineering and Development Advisory Committee (REDAC), the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) invites the U.S. and international community of researchers, practitioners, and interested parties to participate in an international forum to discuss research needed to advance the current understanding of the relationship between aircraft noise and its impacts such as community annoyance and sleep disturbance. This forum will be held in Ottawa, Canada, on August 27th, 2009, immediately following the InterNoise 2009 conference, at the Westin Ottawa Hotel. It is tentatively scheduled to be held from 8 am to 5 pm, in the Nova Scotia room.
The objectives of this forum include:
- Providing background on FAA’s research needs
- Describing relevant ongoing or planned research and highlighting opportunities for collaboration in the areas of community annoyance and sleep disturbance
- Discussing key research questions
- Discussing ways to overcome the research challenges
- Identifying research that can be conducted in the near term
- Identifying currently available data that may be mined for analysis or re-analysis
- Outlining elements for a research roadmap
The forum will provide valuable inputs to a series of workshops FAA is planning in the United States to develop a comprehensive research roadmap for FAA and other interested parties to implement more systematic, effective, and complementary research programs. We want to leverage resources towards substantially advancing the scientific knowledge needed by the aviation community to more optimally address the impacts of aircraft noise on society.
